I have always known the story of Anne Frank and her diary. I visited the Anne Frank Huis museum in Amsterdam in April 2008. But I had not ever actually read the entire diary until this week, and it made me think about a lot of things.

I wonder, if a similar situation were to occur to me or someone I know, would they or I have the courage to do what the Frank’s friends did? Would that danger be readily received and dealt with every single day? And how would the hiders fare?

As a Millenial, I grew up on the cusp of technology. I can remember what a novelty the first car phone was, but today live with my computer and my BlackBerry permanently attached to me. I don’t like being without. I have friends that can’t stand to leave the house without their BlackBerry, Iphone, Palm, etc… My generation lives off a constant flow of information and communication and I wonder what would happen if we were suddenly cut off from these crutches…for 2+ years.

We Millenials also live with the idea that we  want to get what we want immediately or we don’t want it anymore. We want service, NOW. We want information, NOW. We want knowledge, jobs, life, NOW. What would you do if you suddenly were forced to be cut off from the world, and you had to give up your source of instant gratification?
