My generation (Gen Y/Millenials) have been using shorthand text for many years. “Phrases” like LOL, ROTFL, BRB and Gr8 have been a part of my internet vocabulary since instant messaging (IM) became popular. Many from older generations had no knowledge or understanding of our computer speak. But thanks to Twitter and other social media sites, such language has become more acceptable. In fact, as I learned today from @KeepAustinWierd (via @adamsconsulting), these terms are now a part of a “Twitter Dictionary.”
