The Monster Ball July 29, 2010

Like I said before, I was lucky enough to get to attend the sold out Lady Gaga: Monster Ball tour on Sunday at the Toyota Center in Houston. And I again repeat that I am officially a devout Little Monster! I love, love, LOVED her show! Lady Gaga is an incredible performer with an incredible message for all!

Equality. Self love. Truth of Self.

But all of this aside, it was simply a ton of fun! My friends and I got dressed up and I was in charge of makeup. It was one of my first chances to try some crazier looks I have not had the opportunity to play with before. Any anyone who knows me, knows I LOVE makeup. Below are some of our pictures from the night.

Not bad for a first timer!

I have only one bad thing to say about the show, which I will qualify before. Although Lady Gaga’s costume and makeup changes were incredible, as always, some of the “quick changes” were not so quick. And during these moments, we only had Gaga videos to fill the time. It created too much dead space for me. BUT, like I said, the costumes were incredible!

As soon as it was over, I told my friends I would happily go back again, with crazier outfits and for better seats! Some of my favorites moments were (in no particular order):

1. I got made fun of a lot in high school, so I really milk this part of the show. Do you think I’m sexy? (CHEERS!) Do you think I’m beautiful? (CHEERS!)

2. I’m like Tinkerbell, if you don’t clap for me, I’ll die!  DO YOU WANT ME TO DIE?!??! CLAP FOR ME!

3. The phone call to an audience member (that my friends and I desperately wanted to receive.)

4. Her great outfits and personalized interactions with her dancers, talking to and with them, calling them by name.

5. Making every audience member feel like she is talking directly to them. I was like a mesmerized child!

6. She was very clearly thankful for all she had.

7. Though we assumed we would fit right in with a decked out crowd or little monsters, we stood out with out makeup and clothes, and we loved it!

Milonga with an old man March 2, 2010

Ok so I have had NO time to update! If I have been home, I have been asleep or attempting to sleep! The past week has been CRAZY!

First of all Buenos Aires Fashion Week (BAFWEEK) was in no fewer words AMAZING!!! I worked with the press, did a little translating when needed and got to sit front row at the majority of the fashion shows! I was also very proud of myself because in one month I managed to learn most of the designers by name, face and/or clothing design. I also realized, once again, that I want to work in that world. I LOVE IT! So if you know someone in the beauty/fashion industry looking to hire, send me their info!

Also, when I had a few free moments between some of the runway shows, I made friends with one of the makeup artists. He let me watch as he made up a few models, chatted with me, taught me a little bit, let me play with some of the makeup and even complimented how I had done my makeup! It was a fun and proud moment!

All in all, I LOOOOVEED BAFWEEK!

Since then I have been exhausted!!! But that has not stopped me! After the last show on Friday my whole team went to dinner together which was a ton of fun. Then a bunch of us headed to the BAF Party where we were VIP! And my friend Aurora got to come with me! It was fun but we left pretty quickly. That night was also my friend Clarissa’s last night so we went to see her for a bit. Then I crashed! And refused to get out of bed until the next afternoon!

The rest of the weekend was full, as usual. But I definitely made time to sleep because I was just dead! Sunday I watched my first full game of the Winter Olympics. It was less than thrilling to watch Canada beat us at hockey, but we were outplayed so I can’t say too much about it.

This week is back to life as usual here in Bs As. Monday I went to a live drum show and Tuesday night I went to a place where locals go and tango! I LOVE IT! I just wanted to go out and join but it is a pretty complicated dance. My friend taught me the basics, and then this little old man who had been tearing up the dance floor grabbed me to dance! I was obviously brand new but I made it through my first Milonga! Very proud! And I have officially tangoed!

Next up is my birthday and I can’t wait! I am just sad I can not celebrate with all of my stateside friends! (and those scattered across the world!)

Good night moon! Besos! Ciao!

My makeup must haves July 22, 2009

I could spend hours a day applying makeup, playing with colors and techniques. But most days, I don’t have that kind of time. These 5 things create a look suitable for every day and can be applied in less than 5 minutes.

Mineral Powder: Everyone does coverup differently. Some won’t leave the house without full coverage foundation, while others just touch up a trouble spot. For me, I like just enough coverage without caking it on. That is why I am a big fan of powders, especially mineral powder. My favorite right now is Cover FX Powder FX pressed powder (at Sephora). I just swipe a thin layer quickly over my T-zone and blend and I’m good to go for the day.

Bronzer/Blush Duo: I recently started using NARS bronzer/blush duo. The products are expertly matched to create a natural look with bronzing and highlighting effects. My favorite duo (and the one I hear about most often) is Orgasm Laguna. The name will bring color to your cheeks when you say it, and when you where it.

Duo Eyeliner Pencil: Even with my daily makeup routine, I love adding just a hint of color to my look. That is why I love Vincent Longo Duo Eye Pencils. My favorite is Lime Forrest. The Forrest color helps define my eyes and while the Lime adds that splash of color that I love.

Good Mascara: My personal favorite is CoverGirl LashExact. A good mascara opens up your eyes and makes you look more awake, especially with a clean, fresh face.

A Good Gloss: Looking in my purse right now, I have four very different lip products. But of those, my go-to gloss to finish off my look is Milani Buzz Worthy lip gloss in Bee Mine. This gloss, made with honey extracts and enriched with vitamins A & E, is smooth, not too sticky and provides that little bit of color I need to complete my look.
